Chris Denorfia is a guy who has had his up and downs, but he keeps plugging away. He was drafted by the Reds in the 19th round of the 2002 draft and made it to the majors in 2005. In 2007, he damaged his elbow and had Tommy John surgery and was traded to the Oakland A’s. Chris missed the 2007 season due to the injury, but made the 2008 Opening Day roster. He bounced back and forth between AAA and the majors that season. In 2009, he represented Italy in the World Baseball Classic, but was sent to the minors by the A’s for the season. He was signed by the Padres on December 16th, 2009 and made it to the majors for good on May 17th. Since his arrival in San Diego, has been a solid player off the bench and plays all 3 OF spots well. Chris will begin the 2013 season playing RF in a platoon with Wil Venable.
We noticed Chris walking by us while we were chatting and we walked over to take pictures with him. I asked him who his favorite player was and why. He had 2 that h loved. Growing up in Bristol, Connecticut, he watched the Red Sox and his favorite players are “Dwight Evans and Nomar Garciaparra.” He also had the opportunity to play with Nomar when he was with the A’s.
